Earthing refers to dissipating extra current produced in the system due to any faults like short circuiting by providing a low resistance path from equipment to earth (which is having 0 Impedance), while grounding is essentially providing a zero refernce point to the system i.e. providing a return path.
Earthing is done for a particular building or for any complex or mall & for premises but grounding is done for distribution & transmission line. In transmission line the upper wire is used as ground wire Which protect transmission line from lightning.
EARTHING AND GROUNDING ARE THE DIFFERENT TERMS USED TO EXPLAIN THE SAME CONCEPT. EARTHING INVOLVES PROVISION OF LOW IMPEDANCE PATH FROM ANY SHELL OF THE EQUIPMENTS TO THE EARTH USING SOME PHYSICAL CONNECTIONS LIKE EARTH ROD BUT THE GROUNDING INVOLVES PROVISION OF NEUTRAL OR RETURN PATH FOR A DEVICE TO WORK.WHEN THERE IS A SOURCE THERE MUST BE A CLOSED LOOP OR RETURN LINE WITHIN THE DEVICE TO WORK PROPERLY.
Earthing means connecting a dead part( electrical enclosures) which doesn't carry any current . It is used for safety purpose to prevent electric shock
Grounding means connecting a live part carries current ( transformer's neutral, 3 phase connections). It acts like a return path for electric current.
The term “Earthing means that the circuit is physically connected to the ground and it is Zero Volt Potential to the Ground (Earth) but in case of “Grounding” the circuit is not physically connected to ground, but its potential is zero(where the currents are algebraically zero) with respect to other point
I think not sure, we are using grounding if need to protect electrical circuits by connecting all passive and active elements tocommen point inside devices, but earthing is used normally wherever electro-static currents resulted due to for example lightening such as GSM,MW towers and connected directly to the earth.
Grounding generally refers to the process of dumpng extra charge(static or dynamic) through bonding wires and jumpers. Grounding can be done on earth or in air(for example: static charge in aircraft is grounded through body and dumped in air through Statc wicks).
Earthing refers to the process of grounding the electrical charge on earth.(example: LT panels earthing)
