These authors haven't evolved their way of story telling. The content is highly pretentious, and at times have no rationale. Some one who has read only Chetan Bhagat, Sidney Sheldon or Pauelo Coelho books shouldn't identify himself/herself as an avid reader.
Becoming an avid in reading doesn't depend on the authors,it depends on the novels, the books you are reading. If you are sufficiently reading the books that are capable of enhancing your knowledge and expanding the zeal within you then you become curious and try reading more and more.
Hence, not the authors but your selection of the genre and type of books you want to read should be the deciding criterion.
If one has read each and every item written ?by the authors mentioned above, then there is an eagerness in him or her to pursue the pleasure of reading their works. Would that not make such a person an avid reader? For he or she is keen on reading. However, I do agree that it does not make one a holistic reader, who reads for the sheer joy that can be brought out only from an active imagination.
Avid reader should possess ability and passion to read on variety of subjects .Mentioned authors are mailny in fiction .One should read philosophy, classics, autobiographies,Mythology, etc.Reading canvas has to be broader ,going definitely beyond stroies.
