What is more important? Hardwork or smartwork?

Some studens work very hard but they do not get the get the expected result. On the other hand, some students do not study too much but get the desired result. I am facing the same. Having knowledge but not able to apply at the right place.

I think each one of us for once in life go through the dilemma that you are facing. I feel that Hardwork and Smartwork are terms which are pretty situational in nature and are often overlapping. Smartwork for a moment could mean doing just what is necessary at a particular instant while still working hard. :)
Even if they are non-overlapping I believe each of them is equally important. 
So I believe the ability to cast yourself in a way that you apply your knowledge to the best of your ability is what you should focus on. Just keep some "faith" and "focus".
