Difference between Petrol and diesel ignition system

As far as ignition systems, I wouldn't say thare are huge advancements. A cleaner burn is the key but the principle remains the same. in general chamber design, multi spark (petrol), better atomisation (Diesel- Increased rail pressure) the new atkinson cycle, variable valve timming, variable compression and so on. control of the EGR valve and the lambda sensor with inbuilt heater, they all combine to give a cleaner burn. of course the software plays a major role.. case in point VAG
