there are three possible assumptions. if a man standing near a car asks another for directions 1. the man wanted to travel by bus to his destination since his car had faced some technical difficulties. 2. the car may not be possibly his, it can be assumed he was waiting for someone to pass by for getting directions or the car's owner itself since he couldn't see any other person would could give the neccessary information. 3. it can also be assumed that his motive was different. he could be a thief who wanted to vandalize or steal the car. since he wanted to cover up his actual motive, he pretended to ask for directions to know whether the man was just random passerby or the car's owner himself. where, either would pose as a threat for his actions.
