The answer is NO if he/she is network engineer. but he/she should have known all the routing& switching commands for better network establishment and should have better knowledge of networking like about LAN,WAN, Routing Protocols.
The anser is Yes if he/she is a system admin/ dealing with Active directory services.but here also he/she dont need extra coding laguages or technologies. they should get grip on the pre-defined commands(cmdlets) for powershell management which helps and brings down the difficult to simple while creating & managing Active directory services
In my opinion one should have a knowledge about programming language like Python because you can use python in networking .Here it is not important to have a knowledge of every programming language. because you will not be using them in you daily job .but having a knowledge of python will surely be beneficial for you. Plus one should be able to remember every command that is used for configuring network devices which itself is very difficult . but if you are new and have not much experience in networking ,you should learn pythin programming in networking this will help you stand away from the crowd and you will be able to provide usefull solutions.
I think that it is a fundamental shift, and that programming skills will be increasingly important for network engineers.Obviously, not all network engineers need to learn to program, but it is a valuable skill to have (and will be increasingly so). There are certain jobs, roles, and companies that will be immune to this, but for many of us, it's in your interest to acquire or improve programming skills
network engineer must have knowledge about coding languages.the configuration of devices needs commnd i.e. somewhat kind of program.to understand what type of that device is/whats it has been work,,,,all describe network engg proficiency.so it needs coding.
