This test is only for those who have opted for flying in IAF. This test as it is widely famous is conducted only once in a lifetime. There goes a famous jargon in IAF “you need to have an aptitude for flying, you can’t develop it”.
The test consists of two parts:
1. INS A and INS B: These are MCQ based tests, wherein you’ll be asked certain question on the position, speed, altitude and attitude of the aircraft. To answer these questions you’ll be provided with graphical images of devices such as Speedometer, Altimeter and Gyro meter and Compass. Along with these you’ll have images portraying the attitude of the aircraft, i.e. you need to comprehend whether aircraft is dipping or rising, banking right or banking right. There is a full half an hour session taken by the officer of IAF, in which he demonstrates how to read various instrument and how to perceive the attitude of the aircraft. It is very important to give infallible attention to these instructions. There is again a famous jargon in IAF which says” if you’re attentive during the instructions, then half the battle is won.”
For better insights you can read material on youth4work’s defence forums. Along with that, there’re good no. of videos available on YouTube.
2. Machine Test: This is familiarly most dreaded test of PABT, which has invariably created a niche around itself due to the no second chance provided clause. It again consists of two MS DOS based graphical games, wherein your hand eye limb coordination is assessed. Everyone is provided with three attempts, the key is to stay calm and focused.
Although there is lots of brouhaha concerned with PABT, but the inference is that it is one of the easiest test at your SSB. But again I’ll repeat key is to be attentive, patient, diligent and focused.
