Do you know how to choose PCB and what they are mainly in.

I often order some PCB boards at PCBGOGO, they are mainly in PCB prototype and assembly manufacturing services for over 10 years.

  • First, decide what you want to do - PCB design or VLSI design. Next, what exactly do you want to go about with VLSI design if that's what you want, as that itself is quite vast.

You can hone your skills at PCB design using free tools such as Eagle and if your college has a licensed version of OrCAD or Altium, please make use of them. As for VLSI, there are various tools from Xilinx, Mentor Graphics etc that would get you started with FPGAs, ASICs etc.

VLSI jobs in India are mostly to do with just the design using tools, simulating designs etc and less of interacting with Fabs and the physical process of making chips, testing, characterising, etc. There are many companies specialising in VLSi and allied fields.

Dedicated PCB design companies often are loaded with work and the designers get to work with a variety of designs ranging from regular Commercial Electronic designs to Military and High Speed and RF circuits. This opens up a lot many opportunities to learn technology. PCB design teams in companies such as Bosch, Continental, Honeywell, Tata Elxsi often get to work on their own designs and technologies. Concerning the pay, the former wouldn't be as lucrative as working for big names.
