Flip flop is mainly used for latching, it is used to maintain the status like if we want to latch the circuit at particular state, lets say ON state, then it can be done using Flip Flops. They are generally considered as a single bit memory device which can either hold 1 or 0 to latch the circuit in particular state. ITs like bistable multivibrator. They are generally triggerd using active high or low clock pulse. br /There are many types of flip flops like JK flip flop, d type flip flop, SR flip flop. There are many online good tutorial, but if you are preparing for interview then focus on JK flip flop, it is commonly asked flip flop, here is one link for JK flip flop. which was very helpful when I was preparing for Interview.
