  • In simple word we can say that mooting means to suggest something for discussion. But  in legal context mooting means a trial or discussion dealing with an imaginary legal case performed by students in exactly the same way as a real case as part of their legal training. Mooting is the practice through which the law students could develop their skills in the field of law. It helps them to learn the basics things of law and legal practice. It is generally based on the hypothetical case or imaginary case. And on that particular case the student prepares their memorials and then they argue on that during the academic exercise or moot court competitions. In other words we can say that mooting means a mock judicial proceeding set up to examine a hypothetical or imaginary case as an academic exercise.
