please, share your views on topic like on what soil condition it is used and what load will it take or is that economical or not.

  •  the trapezoidal footing, which may be used to carry two columns of unequal loads when distance outside the column of the heaviest load is limited. In such case using a rectangular footing may lead to the resultant of loads dos not fall at the middle length of the footing. To overcome this difficulty, a trapezoidal footing is used in such a way that the center of gravity of the footing lies under the resultant of the loads. Correspondingly, the distribution of contact pressure will be uniform. It is required to design the building footings considering property lines at the west and south sides of the building (a neighbor building). The design must be carried out twice. In the first one, the footings are designed as isolated footings without connection among them, while in the second, the footings are designed as connected footings with tie beams to reduce the differential settlements among them and footing rotations.

  • trapezoidal footings are used in cases where the loads are unequal.

  • Under the different column load

  • Trapezoidal footings are mostly used for residential houses and buildings. But its always advisable to use pad footings instead of trapezoidal footings. Pad footings are better as we can use vibrator and make the concrete more compact. This is not possible in trapezoidal footing due to its geometry. Trapezoidal footing is more economical in terms of concrete volume as it will have 20-30% less concrete as compared to a pad footing of the same size. But structurally always advisable to go for a pad footing.
