Google use it to position it's customers' ads online. To ensure maximum success. Amazon tracks it's customers' choices and follows them online to maximize the chances of buying. It's algorithms is designed to understand it's customers choices and present them with accurate products.
Extremism is controlled through machine learning algorithms which tracks them down online and omits them. 
Most humble of applications like Grammerly use them to suggest you a text. 
Gmail uses it to suggest an appropriate reply to an email.
