what is transformer? and only work AC Supply . Why?

Transformer is a static device which is working on intromagnetic induction principal. Transformer only works in AC supply because for induction process, it is necessary to present change of flux. And in DC supply there will be no flux change phenomenon happen so induction process couldn't be happen. That's why transformer is used in AC supply.
