What are the most important data formats seenin Excel and how they are used

i was asked this in my interview for internship that the most important data format seen in excel .

numbers and strings 
we can modify as for our requirment like doing addition, subtration, multiplication etc...
and we can adjust strings as we can change mid to end for surname name etc

in numbers its easy to drag if they are in serial manner... time saving   easy work...
