  • The difference between spring and dashpot is that spring is a leap; a bound; a jump while dashpot is a mechanical damping device consisting of a piston that moves through a viscous fluid (usually oil); used, in conjunction with a spring, in shock absorbers.

  • A dashpot absorbs shock smoothly as the fluid in it passes through small orifice. A spring generally absorbs and releases energy.
