Introduction What is a better thing to be being idealistic or being pragmatic Both are evolution of philosophy, where the first one deals with an abstract or hypothetical situation which says how things should be and the latter emphasizes on dealing with things in the way that is based on practical rather than theoretical considerations. Human Resource or HR as abbreviated is a term used to describe the individuals who make-up the organization. It is one of the key resources and important function of any organization, as organizations cannot exist without human resources. Organization Behavior a subject which is involved in the study of basics of human resources and its functions. There have been many theories given by numerous researchers and psychologists which emphasize on dealing with attitudes, behavior, personality, perception, motivation etc. But none of these theories have given any ideal situation in which HR should be. Idealistic Approach Idealistic approach of the HR says it should work for the benefits of the employees as it is the key function of any organization. Pragmatic Approach Pragmatic approach of HR says nothing can be given priority over organization if necessary benefits of human resources can be sacrificed for the survival of organization. Conclusion When I first worked with an organization as an executive in HR department, the first thing I was told was that we cannot commit anything to the employees being part of the HR. Employees will always give suggestions for bringing change in something or other but we cannot always commit them that change will be certain as they wanted. As every change requires funds and funds canrsquot be approved for everything. It will only focus on necessary things. And thatrsquos the main reason why any theory in HR does not talk about an ideal situation. As said by my one of the mentors, ldquoThough being idealistic is always better as it emphasizes on pureness and betterment of things but we cannot be always idealistic and we have to act pragmatic sometimes as forces around us such as social factors like family or society or management in-case of organization always force us to act accordingly. And we ourselves are responsible to find a way in between. rdquo
