  • Phytochrome
    Phytochrome is an important pigment that regulates photomorphogenic aspects of plant growth and development, such as seed germination, stem elongation, leaf expansion, formation of certain pigments, chloroplast development, and flowering.

  • Phytochrome is the protein blue coloured pigment found in leaves that absorbs red light of the sun. This pigment exist in two forms that is Red Light and Far Light. Red light absorbing form is PR that absorbs red light having 660 nm wavelength. And Far Light absorbing form PFR which absorbs far red light having 740 nm wavelength.
    Phytochrome also helps in respiration, RNA synthesis, Auxin catabolism, fat degradation, protein degradation and permeability.
