What is the difference betwen ductile and fragile fracture surface?

The first one ever deforms; fragile fracture do not. Why?

  • Ductile fracture shows superficial plastic deformations and relative metal narrowing. Fragile fracture does not have permanente deformations and prgresses through cleavage planes. My blog shows photos of both types.

  • fragile fracture surface are shiny and have cleavage.while ductile fracture surface have uneven appearance and having ups and downs due to cup and cone phenomena of fracture.

  • A ductile fracture is characterized by considerable amount of plastic deformation prior to and during the crack propagation.T he cracking occur via cup cone mechanism On the other hand, brittle fracture is characterized by very lessdeformation during the crack propagation. It has grainy and faceted Texture.
