  • Transpiration is the process.
adhesion and cohesion are the properties of upward movement against gravity.

  • Movement of water begins from the root by root hairs with the 100 feet per hour speed using the process called Osmosis. If water pressure increased then root hairs moves water upward cell by cell through roots and trunk and reach at the top of the plant or tree. Most of water passes into atmosphere through leaves is called Transpiration and 1 % of water taken by plant or tree is called Photosynthesis.
Xylem is responsible for the upward movement of water because xylem depends on chemical properties of water that's why water stick into xylem and doesn't fall down. Action through which water moves to upward is called Capillary Action and the upward movement of water from root towards the top of the plant is called Ascent of SAP.
