ATM is Ataxia Telangiectasia Mutated and ATR is Ataxia Telangiectasia and Rad3 related. When DNA damage due to exogenous and endogenous source that cause ATM and ATR activated. Exogenous source of DNA is ionizing radiation, ultraviolet and chemical mutagens. Endogenous source is metabolic byproducts, stalled replication forks.
Due to DNA damage activation of elaborate cellular network by eukaryotic cell is called DNA Damage Response (DDR).
At molecular level, DDR pathway consist various key component such as DNA damage sensors and Signal transducers and effectors.
Additional layer of control of the DDR which is based on small RNAs called DDRNAs.Modal content
