Why this branch of engineering is called 'civil engineering'?

Generally civil means "jan" (sanskrit word ) . you well known about engineeing , the branch of engineering which is directly attached to public and enviornment with great efforts is called civil engineering. if you help the pepole without knownig engineering and application of engineering then you are called civilian.br /civil engineer have following charectristics which is related to public enviornment etc.br /1. public utility construction:- ROAD, RAILWAY, BRIDGE , AIRPORT etc br /2. facilty to the public :- HOME, RESTURENT, HOSPITAL, SCHOOL etcbr /3. wonder:- TAJMAHAL, KILA etcbr /4.enviornmental area:- WATER SUPPLY TO HOME, MAKE THE ENVIORNMENTAL POLLUTION FREE.br /br /
