Youth4Work has compiled a few simple steps towards building a professional presentation slide set. Here it is.

1. Keep your slides simple, organized and easy to read. Adding too much of text will confuse the audience whether to read the slide or listen to the speaker. So keep a target of conveying one simple idea in one slide.

2. Don’t overcrowd your slides. Use bullet points and to maximize the impact make sure you use fewest words in each sentence.

3. Use lots of visuals to convey your ideas. Pictures are worth thousands of words. Use graphs to show relationship between variables and block diagrams to explain processes. Don’t use complicated diagrams. Make sure everything is there for a reason - to illustrate your point or make it memorable.

4. Avoid contrasting backgrounds, and keep lots of white space between lines/sections.

5. Choose a writing colour that shows up clearly on the background and for a professional presentation, stick to simple fonts and avoid cartoons.

6. Your first slide should include your name and title, and follow this with a slide summarizing your talk. End with a slide giving your contact details. Don’t forget to thank your audience.
